Bryan A. Bonner serves as the Chief Operating Officer | Church Administrator of Alfred Street

Baptist Church, one of the nation’s most historic and influential African American

congregations. In this capacity, he oversees all operational and administrative functions, leading a diverse and dedicated team to advance strategic initiatives, optimize processes, and drive excellence across key areas, including finance, human resources, facilities management, information technology, and church operations.


Bryan is a retired member of the Senior Executive Service, having served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Field Operations at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). His federal career includes high-profile assignments, such as Investigative Counsel with the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol and Counselor to the Director at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), where he established the National Intelligence Management Aviation function. He has also served as Counsel to the Federal Reserve Board and as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force (active duty and reserve).


In academia, Bryan is a Director and Adjunct Professor of Law at Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he develops and teaches courses in litigation, professional responsibility, and conflict resolution. Outside his professional career, he is an active mentor, contributing to mentoring programs at the Department of Homeland Security, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, and the Sara Start Fund.


Bryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Virginia (1990) and a Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law (1993).
