Women To Watch 2024 honoree Jennifer Jones



Jennifer Jones is a globally acclaimed, award-winning performer known for her pioneering achievements and advocacy for equal rights in the arts. She stands alongside a select group of trailblazers who have shattered racial barriers, a distinction rare in every generation.


In 1987, Jennifer made history as the first African American Radio City Music Hall Rockette, breaking a longstanding policy against hiring African Americans for the iconic chorus line. Her national debut with the Rockettes took place during the 1988 Super Bowl XXII Halftime Show, marking a transformative era for the dance troupe and beyond. In 1989, Jennifer further showcased her courage and trailblazing spirit by becoming the first African American Miss Morris County Pageant Queen in her hometown of New Jersey.


Her illustrious career includes performing in the ensemble of the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of "42nd Street" in 2001. Jennifer's legacy of defiance and inspiration was commemorated with a world premiere tribute by the Harlem School of the Arts in 2016, honoring her resilience and exceptional talent.


In addition to her groundbreaking career, Jennifer is a colorectal cancer survivor and advocate. She speaks openly about the importance of early detection and screenings, emphasizing their power in saving lives. Particularly concerned about the rise of this disease in younger adults and the African American community, Jennifer passionately hopes that her message can help raise awareness and ultimately save lives.


Jennifer is the author of the children's book "On The Line: My Story of Becoming the First African American Rockette" and the memoir "Becoming Spectacular," both published by HarperCollins. She also created the Limited-Edition Dancing Jenn Doll as a tangible symbol

of her journey. Recognized by Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden for her groundbreaking achievements, Jennifer continues to share her story with a global audience, embodying resilience, determination, and the power of transformation.
